Minister for Police, Emergency Services and Bushfire Response Kim Wells and Member for Carrum Donna Bauer today announced that the Napthine Government will provide $600,000 towards the construction of a new CFA station in Skye.
“The Napthine Government is building a better and safer Victoria by bolstering emergency response capabilities in Carrum and surrounding areas,” Ms Bauer said.
“This station forms part of the Coalition Government’s $125 million commitment to build or upgrade hundreds of CFA stations across the state, which has been completed on time and more than $5 million under budget.
“This has ensured additional brigades, like Skye, will be provided with state-of-the-art facilities, which is a significant boost for our region’s emergency services.
“This investment will greatly assist the 33-strong volunteer brigade, which responds to around 250 emergency callouts each year and has been serving the community for more than 60 years.
“Only a Coalition Government can consistently deliver significant project savings. In contrast, Labor has a clear record of waste and mismanagement with myki, desal and the north-south pipeline.”
Ms Bauer said the local community was already benefiting from increased frontline emergency services, with the Napthine Government delivering new trucks to Patterson River CFA.
“Community safety is paramount, and the Coalition Government is delivering on its commitment to strengthen Victoria’s emergency services and ensure all Victorians and their families are better protected,” Ms Bauer said.
Ms Bauer said the Napthine Government has a proven track record to enhancing community protection for the local area over the past four years and the investments would continue if re-elected.
“A re-elected Napthine Government will build a modern $3.5 million CFA station for Carrum which will cater for future growth and ensure our local fire services are better equipped to respond to emergencies now and well into the future,” Ms Bauer said.
Mr Wells said the Napthine Government’s continued investments in Victoria’s emergency services recognised the critical role firefighters play in keeping Victorians safe.
“The Coalition Government’s true commitment to the state’s fire agencies is proven by the record budgets we have provided to the MFB and CFA since being elected in 2010,” Mr Wells said.
“Under a Napthine Government, Victoria’s emergency management response is better prepared and better resourced than it ever was under 11 years of Labor neglect.”
