MEMBERS STATEMENTS

Regional rail link

Mr WELLS (Rowville) — This statement condemns the Andrews Labor government and the Minister for Public Transport for their arrogance and deception regarding the previous coalition government’s significant public transport achievements. In the last sitting week the Minister for Public Transport arrogantly derided the opposition, alleging complete inaction over four long years. The minister must have a very poor memory. How could she forget? But then again it is something about Labor ministers for public transport.

Infrastructure projects

Mr WELLS (Rowville) — This statement condemns the Andrews Labor government for its complete hypocrisy on the issue of transparency, consultation and accountability when it comes to proposed infrastructure projects. In opposition, and now in government, state Labor has deceitfully criticised the coalition for not releasing the full details of the business case for projects such as the east–west link and has espoused a holier‑than‑thou position in relation to consultation and the public release of information regarding projects.

Mr WELLS (Rowville) — This statement condemns the Andrews Labor government for its lack of progress in delivering public transport infrastructure. The Premier promised to get on with the job. Six months into this government, Victorians are asking, ‘Where are the shovel‑ready projects we were promised? Where are the jobs?’. Why were Victorian business leaders meeting the New South Wales Premier, Mike Baird, in Melbourne last week to discuss investment in New South Wales? Labor needs to lift its game and fast.

Second reading

Mr WELLS (Rowville) — I rise to join the budget reply. The Andrews government’s first budget is one about rewarding mates. If you live in a Labor seat, are a member of a union or are a friend of the ALP, then this is a good budget for you. However, if you are looking for a budget for the benefit of the entire state or the entire population, or you are looking at economic growth or financial management, then you see that the Victorian population misses out in this budget.

MATTERS OF PUBLIC IMPORTANCE

Transport infrastructure

Mr WELLS (Rowville) — I rise to support the Leader of the Opposition’s matter of public importance. It is a very good one because it shows the difference between the views of the previous government and opposition and the views of the current Andrews government. If you look at the budget that was brought down yesterday, you will see there is no question that it will do nothing to fix traffic problems in Melbourne. There is nothing about infrastructure in this budget.
