• Napthine Government delivers $344,000 in station upgrades at Kangaroo Ground and Research CFA brigades
• Emergency response capabilities boosted for Melbourne’s north-east
• Coalition Government building a better and safer Victoria
Emergency response capabilities have been boosted in Melbourne’s north-east with upgrades at Research and Kangaroo Ground CFA brigades officially opened today.
Minister for Police and Emergency Services and Bushfire Response Kim Wells said the upgrade provides enhanced facilities for brigade members and will increase community protection in a known bushfire prone area.
“The Napthine Government is building a better and safer Victoria to ensure Research and Kangaroo Ground is better protected from the threat of fires and other emergencies than ever before,” Mr Wells said.
“Both stations form part of the Coalition Government’s $125 million commitment to build or upgrade 250 CFA stations across the state, and with 240 stations now complete, we are well on track to deliver our commitment by November.”
State Member of Parliament and Liberal candidate for Eildon Cindy McLeish said the $187,000 upgrade to Kangaroo Ground would strengthen the emergency response capabilities for the region.
“Located in a known high fire danger area, this upgrade will provide enhanced facilities for our firefighters and ensure a higher level of protection to volunteers who perform a critical role responding to fires and other emergencies in Eildon,” Ms McLeish said.
Liberal Candidate for Eltham Steve Briffa welcomed the upgrade to Research CFA, a brigade which has been serving the local community for more than 60 years.
“The $157,000 upgrade has ensured the brigade has better facilities which meet current and future needs, and will significantly enhance emergency response capabilities for Research and surrounding areas,” Mr Briffa said.
Mr Wells said both refurbishment projects had employed local builders, keeping the economic benefits in the region.
“These investments have promoted growth and created jobs, and ensured Kangaroo Ground and Research brigades have the necessary infrastructure to meet community needs,” Mr Wells said.
Mr Wells said the Coalition Government has a proven and strong commitment to supporting the CFA and its firefighters who play a critical role in Victoria’s emergency response.
“This financial year the CFA Budget is $457 million, $58 million more than it was when Labor left office,” Mr Wells said.
“In addition to millions of dollars of station upgrades, we have also invested more than $108 million to purchase 275 CFA trucks.
“The Coalition Government’s significant investments in Victoria’s fire services and the broad suite of emergency management reforms that have been introduced over the past four years have helped to ensure Victoria is now better protected.”
