Message from Kim

As your local MP, I represent the Rowville District in the Victorian State Parliament. The Rowville electorate includes the suburbs of Scoresby, Ferntree Gully, Knoxfield, Rowville, Lysterfield and Lysterfield South.

I have been honoured to represent the Knox area in Victorian Parliament since 1992 and proudly served as the Victorian Treasurer (2010-2013) and Police and Emergency Services Minister and Minister for Bushfire Response (2013-2014). From  2015 to 2018, I served as the Chair of Parliament’s Independent Broad-based Anti-Corruption Commission Committee. My current role is Manager of Opposition Business,  Shadow Minister for Public Sector Integrity and Shadow Minister for Counter Terrorism.

I work hard to be a strong voice for Knox residents.  Constituents with queries about State government matters may contact my electorate office via the contact section. Announcements for our local area can be found in the media releases section of the website.

Liberal Nationals Local Business Action Plan

The Liberal Nationals today announced the third part of the Local Business Action Plan to make Victoria the small business capital of the nation, with a commitment to freeze selected fees levied on businesses by local councils for four years.

As part of the Liberal Nationals Local Business Action Plan, a number of local government fees will be frozen including footpath and road occupation fees, fees on hairdressers and beauty businesses, fees on food businesses, and fees on accommodation providers.

Small business is the lifeblood of our economy, but over the past six years, and especially during COVID lockdowns in 2020, the Andrews Labor Government’s mismanagement has smashed small businesses. Many will never recover.

The Liberal Nationals’ Local Business Action Plan backs local business, local jobs and local success.

The time has come for governments to get off the back of small business, cut red tape and let small business get on with the work of growing our economy and creating jobs.

Small businesses across Victoria have been telling us that government fees and charges are holding them back.

As part of the Liberal Nationals Local Business Action Plan, up to $1,500 in rebates will be available for eligible small businesses to claim against specified state and local government fees and charges.

Examples of fees and charges covered include food authority licences, liquor licences, trade licences, event fees, outdoor seating fees and council rates.

We will ensure Victoria is once again the small businesses capital of Australia and that Victoria’s COVID economic recovery will be small business-led.

Our Local Business Action Plan will help get Victoria back on top by backing local business, local jobs and local success.

Payroll tax is a tax on jobs, and the Liberal Nationals will cut this tax to create more Victorian jobs.

Small businesses in Victoria pay too much tax – and the bigger they grow, the more Victorians they employ, the more they pay. The Local Business Action Plan means a saving of up to $43,650 each year on payroll tax for small business.

Under Labor, Victoria has the worst small business payroll tax in the country. The Liberal Nationals will turn this around and make this state the best place to start and grow a small business.
