UPDATE: Bus ‘Review’ for Wheelers Hill Secondary Students

Tuesday, 23 February 2016

Mr WELLS (Rowville) — (Question 6802) The constituency question I wish to raise is for the attention of the Minister for Public Transport. In May last year I raised with the minister the matter of overcrowding on school bus services to and from Wheelers Hill Secondary College and Stud Park Shopping Centre in Rowville. A new school year has commenced, and nothing has been resolved.

Consequently I must once again highlight to the minister this significant problem on behalf of students and parents of Wheelers Hill Secondary who live in my electorate of Rowville. I therefore ask the minister on behalf of the concerned parents and students: why are students still having to put up with overcrowding on the Wheelers Hills Secondary bus service, either missing out on actually getting on or having to dangerously stand up on the buses, when this matter was first raised with the minister last May?

Public Transport Victoria (PTV) regularly reviews bus networks across the state to ensure they meet the needs of the community.

Ventura undertook a patronage survey of buses servicing the Wheelers Hill area last year. The survey found there was adequate capacity on these routes to meet the demand.

I have asked PTV to review school special buses in the area.
