Minister for Police, Emergency Services and Bushfire Response Kim Wells and Liberal candidate for Eltham Steve Briffa announced that a re-elected Napthine Government will deliver a new $690,000 medium pumper for the Research CFA station, boosting community safety on the urban fringe in Melbourne’s outer north-east.

Mr Briffa said the Napthine Government was committed to delivering better equipment for the dedicated volunteer brigade, which has been serving the local community for more than 60 years.

“The Napthine Government is working hard to build a safer Victoria by ensuring Eltham is better protected from the threat of fires and other emergencies than ever before,” Mr Briffa said.

“This election commitment is building on the Coalition Government’s significant investments in the CFA that continue to increase community safety and make Victoria a safer place.”

Mr Briffa said the local brigade’s 60 volunteers provided a critical role responding to emergencies, attending more than 80 callouts each year.

“It is fantastic to make this commitment today. This investment by a re-elected Napthine Government will provide our hardworking firefighters with the latest specialist equipment and resources to increase protection for our region and boost their own personal safety,” Mr Briffa said.

“A new pumper will significantly enhance local emergency response capabilities for Eltham and help ensure the local community is better protected.”

Mr Briffa said the Coalition Government has significantly bolstered community protection in the local area.

“Our community is already benefiting from increased frontline emergency services including the $157,000 refurbishment to Research station, which I recently opened with Minister Wells.

“This $690,000 pumper announcement will complement the improved services we are already seeing delivered in the region.”

Mr Wells said the Victorian Coalition Government was proud of the vital work performed by the CFA.

“Since 2010, $2.29 billion in funding has been provided to the CFA, more than any previous government,” Mr Wells said.

“This financial year the CFA Budget is $457 million, $58 million more than when Labor left office in 2010.

“Community safety is paramount, and the Coalition Government is delivering on our commitment to strengthen Victoria’s emergency services and ensuring all Victorians are better protected.”
