Minister for Police and Emergency Services Kim Wells has today welcomed the appointment of James Higgins as the Metropolitan Fire Brigade (MFB) Chief Executive Officer (CEO).
“Mr Higgins was the former Executive Director of the Corporate Services Group within the Victorian Department of Human Services (DHS). Prior to joining DHS he was the Commissioner of the Queensland Ambulance services, bringing to the MFB an extensive understanding of the emergency services sector,” Mr Wells said.
“On behalf of the Victorian Coalition Government I would like to congratulate Mr Higgins on his recent appointment and look forward to working positively with him, as he leads MFB through the next challenging phase of its evolution.
“I would also like to take this opportunity to thank Russell Eddington who has been acting CEO since February. Mr Eddington will resume his duties as Executive Director Corporate Services on Mr Higgins taking up his position in April.”
The Coalition Government is committed to investing in Victoria’s fire services and is providing more resources than any previous government.
The MFB Budget for 2013-2014 is $316 million – $30 million more than under the last Labor budget.
The Coalition Government greatly values the work of our emergency services personnel who continue to demonstrate a high degree of professionalism, commitment and dedication in exercising their responsibilities.
