Minister for Police and Emergency Services and Bushfire Response Kim Wells has welcomed Scouts Victoria’s offer to donate the availability of hundreds of beds at scout camps across Victoria to those Morwell families choosing to take a break away from the smoke.
“For those people choosing to take a break, Scouts Victoria have generously offered Morwell residents temporary accommodation at major campsites across Victoria,” Mr Wells said.
“Scouts Victoria are offering free accommodation at popular campsites this week and over the Labour Day long weekend for Morwell families and groups seeking a few nights in a different environment.
“This is a generous initiative from Scouts Victoria that will greatly assist Morwell residents who do not have alternate temporary accommodation arrangements.
The scout camp offer is being coordinated by LaTrobe City Council. Locations include sites at Gilwell Park in Gembrook, Bay Park at Mount Martha, Treetops and Rowallan Park at Riddells Creek and Caringal at Tyers Junction.
“I would like to take this opportunity to thank Scouts Victoria for their kind offer. This highlights the wonderful community spirit of the Scouts, who are lending a hand to the Morwell community at this challenging time,” Mr Wells said.
Morwell families choosing to take a break this week or over the Labour Day long weekend at a scout camp should contact LaTrobe City Council on 03) 5128 5616.
